DIVA Sangiovese

DIVA Sangiovese

The Blood of Jupiter

Diva; Italian, literally, goddess, from Latin, feminine of divus divine, god

Jupiter was the top god or in Latin, top divus. Ancient Romans believed Jupiter held such supreme powers that he ruled the sky. Even more, he was the King of all the Gods. The Roman Empire aligned itself to Jupiter’s thundering powers by sacrificing living beings in his honor and figured the sacrificial gifts gave them the right to rule the world.

The Romans believed wine a daily requirement and it was deemed an absolute necessity by the Roman Army. Soldiers would not lay siege to any city until the wine supply was in place and available to them, local water and local beverages could not be trusted. The most highly regarded and abundant variety was Sangiovese from the Tuscany area. Its Latin name was Sanguis Jovis, ‘The Blood of Jupiter’.

Sangiovese produces a deeply concentrated wine. The Roman armies would drink the ‘Blood of Jupiter’ and taste dark cherries and chocolate with undertones of spicy mellowness. Such was their worship and obedience to Jupiter that to drink a wine named for him, strengthened their will and resolve to lay siege to the next city fulfilling the destiny given to all Romans by Jupiter – conquer and rule the world.

Our ‘Blood of Jupiter’ takes the feminine form, a goddess, Diva. Never one to be ignored, this Diva is made to stand out in a crowd. More demanding than your average red, our Sangiovese belts out fearsome fruit notes with bold undertones of spice that reverberate through every sip. This combination will have you shouting 'Encore!' before the curtains close on your first glass.
