Fun Fact: The Most expensive wines in the world are blends.
The goal of producing a red blend: to make a wine that is actually better than the sum of its parts.
There’s a myth that all red blends are cheap to make and low grade in flavor and character. To the contrary, some of the most expensive and important wines in the world are red blends, like the bottles of Bordeaux priced at $35,000 and up! Bordeaux, France is arguably the most popular region for blended wines in the world.
Red blends provide reliable and consistent flavor profiles. They also vary widely in personality, flavor and style. Blending different grape varieties accentuates a particular grape's virtues. The goal is to produce a wine that is actually better than the sum of its parts.
A wine blend is the combination of two or more grape varieties, blended together to achieve a complex, well balanced wine. Our Head Winemaker, Alaina and our Assistant Winemaker, Adam, use their skills of combining nuances to showcase a variety’s exquisite potential. Sourcing grapes from the Columbia Valley, they blend varietals that are full-bodied, juicy, fruit-forward and rich with distinct flavor and aromas producing wines in the generic category called 'Red Blends' or 'Red Wines.'
