Fun Fact:  The Most expensive wines in the world are blends.

The goal of producing a red blend: to make a wine that is actually better than the sum of its parts.

There’s a myth that all red blends are cheap to make and low grade in flavor and character. To the contrary, some of the most expensive and important wines in the world are red blends, like the bottles of Bordeaux priced at $35,000 and up! Bordeaux, France is arguably the most popular region for blended wines in the world.

Red blends provide reliable and consistent flavor profiles. They also vary widely in personality, flavor and style. Blending different grape varieties accentuates a particular grape's virtues. The goal is to produce a wine that is actually better than the sum of its parts.

A wine blend is the combination of two or more grape varieties, blended together to achieve a complex, well balanced wine. Our Head Winemaker, Alaina and our Assistant Winemaker, Adam, use their skills of combining nuances to showcase a variety’s exquisite potential. Sourcing grapes from the Columbia Valley, they blend varietals that are full-bodied, juicy, fruit-forward and rich with distinct flavor and aromas producing wines in the generic category called 'Red Blends' or 'Red Wines.'

Our 2019 Let's Dance GSM Red Wine won GOLD with 94 points at the 2022 Washington Wine awards. Let’s Dance, is a blend of 28% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 42% Mourvedre made in a GSM Rhône Valley style. These three varietals smooth and enhance the aromas of ripe fruit, bright raspberry flavors, herbs and grippy bold finish.

Our 2019 Oh! Orgasmic Meritage, released in June of 2023, won double Gold and scored 97 points in the 2022 Washington Wine awards. This nod to Old World Bordeaux is a blend made up of several varietals including 18% Malbec, 5% Petite Verdot, 18% Merlot, 59% Cabernet Sauvignon. This award winning blend evokes aromas of red currant, juicy dark fruit with medium body and tannins.

Our most popular red wines which include Climax, Ride or Die, evocativity Red Wine and Blazing Straddle Sweet Red Wine are all red blends. This blending practice  produces a layering of each grape's flavors enhancing the wines complexity, particular characteristics, taste profiles and balance — making all of these approachable wines best sellers!

Alaina reports, “It’s always my goal to make the best wine possible, even if it means that I have to blend 2% of something special in. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.”

Cheers to Red Blends!
