how to be a wine connoisseur: 101
just swirl, sniff and sip.
We think award winning wine is totally fun—no Pomp and Circumstance here. It’s so easy.
- Swirl. First, open and aerate your wine. This lets the wine's flavors fully release. Pour a glass and let the air do its thing. Breath - yes, this means you and the wine. Relax, read the back label and then take in the wine’s beautiful color. You can swirl your glass to aerate it further as you’re drawing it closer.
- Sniff. Lower your gaze and slowly breathe in the aroma. This gives you an idea of what it will taste like and makes it more memorable. Smell the bouquet?
- Sip. Take a first sip. Let it linger on your tongue and interact with your taste buds for a few seconds before swallowing. Sipping keeps the flavors bright, as a big gulp dulls the taste.
- Swallow and Repeat.
There! You are now an official wine connoisseur.
